Safety online and at school

APPLY THESE RULES BOTH AT HOME AND AT SCHOOL
please read:
As long as the Internet is running it will never be truly safe, but there are ways to make it safer. Always apply the built-in filters to messenger programs that can block strangers from contacting you and seeing your personal information.

Never fill in the blanks of a form with personal things like your address, phone number, full name, etc.

It's also very important not to give an individual online or by email your personal information, because they may not be who they say they are. This is how stalking gets started---when they find you and your location.

Britannica--you have access

At the beginning of school I e-mailed you about accessing Britannica On-Line and EBSCO, two great online resources for reference and research, through Region 14. These two accounts have now been activated through the state- funded K-12 Databases Program. Now, to access this please go to web.esc20.net/k12databases then click on Access K-12 Databases. Our user names and passwords are still the same and will work for both Britannica and EBSCO:

High School – haskellhs; Ktwelve

Junior High – pk-hs-s; Ktwelve

Elementary – haskelles; Ktwelve.

These logins are for faculty, parents and students for campus and home access. This “comprehensive, resource-rich online database package from EBSCO” is being provided to all Texas public schools and “is available 24/7 anytime, anywhere to students, staff and students’ immediate families.” It can be utilized “in the library, the classroom and home, across the curriculum and at all grade levels.”

I wanted to get the word out to everyone about these resources that we are fortunate to have, which can be used by all grades, and as stated, “across the curriculum.” Once you have a spare minute to see all the information here you’ll want to put it to use. Just save to your desktop for convenience. Please share this information with your students, especially since they can use these programs at home if they have computers. We’ll try to distribute printed reminders to them through English classes or the libraries.

Thank you.

Russell Smith's instructions on setting your home page in Internet Explorer
Picasa
My friend, Kay, has been emailing me pictures from her trips and they're so easy to open. They show up as a collage right in the email itself (no downloading, etc.). She told me she uses Picasa to do this.

When you install Picasa, it instantly goes to work, organizing all the pictures on your hard drive by date in the "Folders on Disk" collection. If Picasa finds folders you don't want, go into Tools > Folder Manager to tell it which folders to scan once, scan always or remove. To remove individual pictures from your library, simply select a photo and right-click to delete it permanently from your computer or hide it from Picasa.
Take the tour:

You can make collages with Picasa to email
Only try this at home on your own computer.
