Free AVG 8.5 Anti-Virus Software (has AVG antispyware built in)

I use the free AVG at home. BUT...make sure you uninstall your other anti-virus program and restart your machine before installing AVG anti virus.

If you read the important tips down further on this page, you'll see that you can only run one anti-virus program on your machine at a time or it will mess up your machine.

Free AVG 8.5 Anti-Virus Software (has AVG antispyware built in)

I use the free AVG and don't buy any antivirus program...no sense in paying every year for a new version when you can get AVG free..permanently.

BUT...make sure you uninstall your other anti-virus program and restart your machine before installing AVG anti virus.

You can only run one anti-virus program on your machine at a time or it will mess up your machine.

JUST ONE NOT TWO

Never use two anti-virus products at the same time. (Notice this just applies to Anti-Virus products....you must still use your ONE Anti-Virus product with your SEVERAL Anti-Spyware products and Trojan detectors.

Completely uninstall one before installing another.

Use the vendor's uninstall utility or if not available, use the Windows XP add/remove software tool in the control panel.

Patches & Updates -- Anti-virus software is only as effective as its most recent update. So when you install anti-virus software, go to the vendor's web site and update the program and virus definitions immediately and then TURN ON THE AUTO UPDATE feature (if it has one).

Easy Way to Turn off Your Computer with one button push
This tip came from Russell...more from him below.

To get any XP computer to always do this, just go to start, control panel, power options, choose the advanced tab, then under "when I press the power button on my computer", choose
shut down.

From then on, all you have to do is hold the power button in until the machine shuts down...no more logging off and going through "start, shut down"
